August 10, 2006: Fan-tasia.net interviewed the film's Casting Director, LA David:
What was the main thing you looked for in actors and actresses for this film?
LA David: I looked for actors that physically fit the characters they would be playing. Some were required to sing well and sing not so well, so we did auditions. The kids were the best part they had such a genuineness about them, their acting was just so pure.
Fandash: What special things did you end up doing for this film that you'd never done before?
LA David: I actually auditioned on the set for singers at the American Idol audition. I also, bought prizes and received some donations for the big American Idol day at the Superdome.
Fandash: What was it like working in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina?
LA David: It was hard. It was difficult to find the right kind of actors because so many people were still evacuated.
Fandash: What was your experience like with Fantasia, and your favorite part of making the movie?
LA David: Fantasia was a wonderful joyful person to be around. I enjoyed watching her on set she was the kind of person you could just hang out with. My favorite part was the challenge. I love a good challenge.
Fandash: Thanks!
